The Functional Neurology Approach

The first question most of our patients ask is, “what is functional neurology?”

In short, Functional Neurology consists of a series of brain-based treatments that follow the principals of neuroplasticity. It is often referred to as Chiropractic Functional Neurology -— and it has offered new hope to many patients where traditional medicine didn’t succeed.

There is no medication or surgery required. The total program can take anywhere from one month to a full year, depending on the patient. Specific recommendations vary, but may include muscle therapy, physical exercises, joint adjustments, eye exercises, light/sound/smell/touch stimulations, and nutritional and supplement recommendations.

Your Initial Consultation

Prior to your first visit, Dr. Jay will require all previous testing records performed by other doctors you have seen regarding your condition. This may include X-rays, CT scans, MRIs, blood work, and any other special testing performed in the previous year.

Dr. Jay will take the time to review the paperwork you submitted to our office, expanding the case history with specific questions pertaining to your case. Based on your history, we will then run a few preliminary screening tests.

If Dr. Jay believes he can help you, he will run a thorough neurological and orthopedic exam. Additional special testing may also be performed specifically to your case. In total, the first visit should take 1 to 1 ½ hours.

Your Follow Up Appointments

During your second appointment, Dr. Jay will review the findings of the examination from your initial visit and let you know whether or not he can accept your case. He may also recommend further blood and metabolic testing specific to your case at this time.

If your case is accepted and you decide to proceed with care, your treatment plan and payment options will be explained in detail. Regular office visits will be scheduled over a period of time sufficient to address the specifics of your case.

We understand that visiting a new doctor can be stressful. Please rest assured that we’ll do everything we can to make your visit as comfortable as possible. And if you ever have any questions, please contact Dr. Jay and he will get back to you as soon as possible.
